Just hours before Yom Kippur, a fellow in shul groaned, “This year, I’m not asking small. I’m going big.” I hesitated, but he asked for honesty. So I shared what my Rebbe, Reb Yaakov Moshe Katz, once told me before I entered shidduchim: “Pray to Hashem—satiate me from Your goodness.” That’s it. No lists. No demands. Just surrender. Because we don’t truly know what we need—but Hashem does. And when we let go and ask Him to choose for us, even the smallest gift becomes everything. This year, maybe don’t ask big. Ask real. Ask with emunah. Let Hashem decide. That’s where true happiness begins.
